Inshore Skipper Course
The inshore skipper course provides the basic skills to operate a sailboat in favorable archipelago conditions at daytime.
Participation in the inshore skipper course requires 16 years age. Duration of the course is at least 32 hours.
Previous sailing experience as a crew member is required to participate in the inshore skipper course. The recommended sailing experience before participating in the course is at least 100 nautical miles. It is needed knowledge of navigation for this level (for example Inshore navigation or Navigation1).
The content of the inshore skipper course includes, for example, preparation for sea and route planning, boat handling with the engine and sails, mooring, navigation skills, knowledge of the rules of the road and the skipper's responsibility, emergency situations and taking care of the crew and the yacht. We already familiarize ourselves with these on a separate theory day before the course. The course includes a separate navigation, MOB and harbour training day.
The inshore and coastal skipper courses use the Pory's book Purjeveneen päälliköksi (Becoming a skipper of a sailing boat) as material..
Courses can also be completed with your own boat. In this case, you can also get tips from the instructor on matters related to your own boat and sailing.
We can take an inshore skipper student also to practise with competent crew course. An inshore skipper student can also join to sailing trip.
